3-Day Tokyo Travel Itinerary

Tokyo is a city of contrasts — where ancient temples stand beside futuristic skyscrapers, and quiet gardens sit just steps away from neon-lit shopping streets. In 3 days, you can explore Tokyo’s rich history, vibrant neighborhoods, world-class shopping, and of course, incredible food.

Here’s my suggested 3-day Tokyo itinerary that combines tradition, modern attractions, and local flavors.

Day1
Asakusa & Sensō-ji Temple

Tokyo’s oldest temple, famous for its Thunder Gate and shopping street (Nakamise-dori) filled with traditional snacks and souvenirs. The incense smoke in front of the temple is said to bring good health.

Try ningyo-yaki (sweet cakes shaped like dolls) or melonpan at local stalls.

Day1

Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree – One of the tallest towers in the world, offering panoramic night views of Tokyo’s skyline.

Dinner nearby at Solamachi Mall, which has everything from ramen to tempura.

Day 2

Shibuya Crossing

The busiest pedestrian crossing in the world. Watch the organized chaos from the Starbucks overlooking the scramble.

Visit Shibuya Sky, an open-air rooftop observatory with incredible views of the city.

Day 2
Takeshita Street (Harajyuku)

If Shibuya is Tokyo’s trendy hub, then Harajuku is its youth culture playground. Just steps away from Harajuku Station, Takeshita Street (Takeshita-dori) is a narrow, colorful shopping street packed with quirky fashion, sweets, and everything kawaii (cute). For decades, it’s been the center of Japanese pop culture and street style — a place where Tokyo’s boldest trends are born.

Day 2

Meiji Shrine

Tucked right next to the buzzing fashion streets of Harajuku lies Meiji Shrine (Meiji Jingū), one of Tokyo’s most important Shinto shrines. Dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken, the shrine is surrounded by a tranquil forest of more than 100,000 trees, making it feel worlds away from the neon lights and crowds outside its gates.

Day 3
teamLab Planet

Visiting teamLab Planets TOKYO is unlike any other museum experience. From the moment you step inside, you’re barefoot, walking through shallow pools of water, mirrored walls, and glowing light installations that respond to your movements. Instead of being a spectator, you become part of the artwork — koi fish scatter around your legs, flowers bloom overhead, and galaxies of light expand endlessly in every direction.

Day 3
Japanese Yakatabune Cruise

One of the most unforgettable evenings in Tokyo is a Yakatabune dinner cruise — a traditional Japanese houseboat experience that combines culture, food, and stunning city views. As the lantern-lit boat glides along the Sumida River and Tokyo Bay, you’ll enjoy a multi-course Japanese meal featuring fresh sashimi, crisp tempura, and seasonal dishes, often with all-you-can-drink sake or beer. From the tatami-mat interior, you can admire iconic sights like the Rainbow Bridge, Odaiba, and the glowing Tokyo Skytree reflected on the water. The gentle rocking of the boat, the warm hospitality of the crew, and the peaceful contrast to the busy city make it a magical way to spend an evening in Tokyo.
